Before I really start to deconstruct my understanding of this article I must emphasize the fact that this article has blown my mind and even intrigued me as a person interested in the neuroscience field to maybe one day test the same experiment as Libet. To start to summarize this article I would really like to start with the initial definition of Bereitshchaftspotential which was constructed by Libet and argued that the sign of action in the brain is not only shown beforehand but that the “brains wheels start turning before the person even consciously intends to do something.” One point I would like to state here is how amazingly the introduction was given to us. Me not knowing much about Bereitshchaftspotential I was shaking my head in agreement to Libet’s procedure and his understanding. However this changed as the author talks about Aaron Schurger who provided a valid argument that in reality Bereitshchaftspotential would be the rising part of the brain fluctuation that tend to coincide with the decisions. So in reality Libet’s argument of decision being an illusion appeared to match the actual moment their brains showed them making a decision. So at the of the day Schurger smart remark made us debunk a whole idea that had been going around for a while. After this reading its just so hard for me to really condense my over all feelings and understanding of this article in 250 words but the biggest thing I think I learned from this article is the fact that one understanding and one thought can start the something can many can catch and latch onto but that doesn’t mean its true. This also shows us as writer the importance and the power writing plays and how with your writing you can have a following that builds your understanding of the topic. I might not have clearly shown my understanding in this post but I am for sure mind blown.
